Signs of a Defective Tire
By Amador Law Firm
Driving at high speed with poorly maintained or defective tires can be very dangerous. Experiencing tire blowouts or tread separation can be scary and cause accidents that result in severe injury and sometimes death. Whether the defect was a result of manufacturing issues or design defects, when owning a car, it’s important to be aware of preventative measures that can be taken to help avoid collisions when dealing with a flaw in your tire.
What to be Aware of
It’s important to visually inspect your car and tires frequently throughout the month. It doesn’t always have to be drawn out and is a long process, but a one to two-minute walk around the car can benefit your safety. Below is a list of signs of tire trouble to be on the lookout for.
- Excessively worn tread – If the tread on your tires is worn down to the tread wear indicator bars (most modern tires have them), it’s time for new tires. If your tires do not have these indicators, tread-wear gauges are usually available at auto part stores.
- Uneven tread – This is often caused by misaligned wheels, damages to the tires, improper inflation, or issues with suspension parts.
- Excessive vibration – If your tire is vibrating excessively when driving, it could be a sign of unbalanced, bent, or misaligned parts. This is important when noticing because it could also signify internal tire damage.
- Cracks or cuts – Usually seen in the sidewalls.
- Bulges or blisters – These are also often seen on the sidewalls of a tire. They are a sign of weak spots in your tires’ rubber.
